I am honoured to host the 2025 ESAS International School on Applied Superconductivity, which takes place from 8-13 February 2026 at the University Residential Centre, Bertinoro (Ce.U.B), Italy.

This ancient fortress, dating back to the 10th Century, has become centuries ago an important cultural hub and is particularly suited to gather and exchange knowledge in a pleasant atmosphere.

The School will provide attendees with the fundamentals of superconductivity and the description of the main superconducting materials. The general issues of superconducting devices (AC losses, cryogenics, stability and quench, mechanics) will be discussed. The School will cover the power applications of superconductors (cables, fault current limiters, SMES, electric machines), as well as the applications of the superconducting magnet technology (particle accelerators, fusion devices, high field, MRI and NMR, biomedical devices). Round tables with the industry of superconducting materials and devices will also be organized.

The school is of interest to students (Master, PhD), Post-Docs, engineers and scientists, and anyone else who wants to learn more about applied superconductivity.

I am thrilled to warmly welcome all the participants.

Benvenuti a Bertinoro,

Marco Breschi
